Twilight Movie IN THEATERS 11.21.08

***November 19, 2008***

I know it has been a while since I posted, but with a new gig at hitachi winding down and the holidays I finally have some time to start up again.

Attending the premiere of Twilight the movie in Los Angeles. ]The after-party and movie were both fantastic. But, I wasn't on the red carpet! If you haven't seen pictures from the red carpet, you can see them at mtv.com, imdb.com, and about a thousand other places, and you can read a good description of the night from Larry Carroll at MTV.

Although I am not a movie critic, I feel compelled to tell everyone what I thought about the movie. The first question everyone seems to ask is "was it as good as the book?" The answer is "no". But, I can't think of one good book which had a movie made from it that was as good as the book. I think that it would be impossible to reproduce the type of experience that it is to read Twilight in two hours. Will fans of the book enjoy the movie? Absolutely. Will so-called "Twi-Hards" scream, laugh, squeal, giggle, and swoon (not necessarily in that order)? Definitely—and the chosen order will probably be repeated several times. Maybe a better question (especially for those of you who might be afraid to bring your boyfriend/husband) is if people who haven't read the book will like the movie? I say "yes". It is not uncommon for someone to feel like they don't have the time or the attention span to read a 500 page book. But, the core story of Twilight has been brilliantly preserved in the two-hour time period, and there is no reason to think that just because someone isn't an avid reader they won't enjoy a great story. Also, just like in the Stephenie's book, there is a good amount of both action and comic relief (enough even to entertain those who are "too manly" for a love story).

In case you can't tell, I really liked the movie a lot. It wasn't perfect, but it was extremely good. There are several more things that I want to tell everyone (especially about the amazing talents of several of the actors), but I don't want to give anything away. I want you to be as pleasantly surprised as I was. I did want to quickly say how impressed I was with the actors off-screen. I was able to talk briefly to several of the actors and I was astonished at how down-to-earth and nice they were. For example (and I feel bad mentioning only a few because they were all great and really seemed to enjoy talking to fans) Peter Facinelli (Carlisle), Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria), Ashley Greene (Alice), and Taylor Lautner (Jacob) are some of the nicest people you can imagine. I just think it is so awesome when good people find success. I know that a lot of time and hard work went into making this movie, and in my opinion it really paid off.

I hope everyone enjoys the movie as much as I did. I'll be excited to read your reviews and comments!!

New Rambo Movie

A new John Rambo trailer has hit the web and we have it for you, in all it's bloody-action glory! Body parts are flying, and John Rambo isn't making any apologies for it! This is by far going to be the biggest action film of 2008.

The 77-second video is nothing short of of what fans have been anticipating for years in the revival of this franchise... enough with the introductions, click below!!!

John Rambo arrives in theatres in 2008 and stars Sylvester Stallone, Julie Benz, Sam Elliott, Matthew Marsden, Paul Schulze and Sai Mawng.

In Thailand, a group of Christian aid workers recruit John Rambo to guide them up the Salween River to deliver medical supplies to the Karen tribe of neighboring Burma (aka Myanmar). When the missionaries fail to return, Rambo is persuaded to take a group of mercenaries back into the war-torn border region to find them. What follows is a descent into hell on earth.

iPhone Movie Media Mayhem - Media Review #1

Some people have been writing about the iPhone, and there are complaints as expected with any new device (or old for that matter). So I decided to write about them, and show what's really behind all this.

I will be one of those folks who wait for the next generation. Version 2 iPhone. From my research "they" say it will not cost any less. But they say that about everything!

Price is the thing that hits you first when getting a new tech toy (unless, of course, you receive the device as a gift). So it's not surprising that people don't like the price of the iPhone. I don't think it's too bad, especially considering that it's a wide screen iPod, and the price will likely come down. However, it's not going to be so fast. The iPhone isn't even going to be around for a few months, so if you're willing to wait, it's going to be a long time if you don't think the price is right.

The actual name is a problem, although not for us. For the lovely name "iPhone", they happened to pick a name that existed already and is owned by Cisco for already 6 years. That's before the iPod was released. Well, for one thing Apple isn't likely to let the name go. They're probably going to do what it takes, even if this means bribing Cisco. Anyway, I think this whole "i" prefix thing has run its course. It's over. Find a new naming system, or another company will. It's called Innovation.

Ever wonder what the iPhone will really cost? I decided to pull my accounting suit out of the closet (man it was dusty) and give it a shot. $599 for the device is just only the beginning. I still don't believe the average American can afford this device, no matter how great the majority of bloggers believe it is. You have to factor in things like a phone plan, data plan, text messaging plan, etc.

So let's take a look at the math.
$640 Phone - $599 plus tax (~8%)
$60/mo Voice Plan - cheapest plan with unlimited nights and weekends
$40/mo MEdia Max 3000 Bundle - includes 3000 texts and unlimited MediaNet which I assume will work as the browse function on the iPhone
$8/mo Fees - lovely fees

So doing the math, and looking at a year of usage on this device, the total comes to (ATT rate plans): $1,996 - Based on my research!

Let me know your thoughts. I would love to hear what you have to say about this new media device. Like I said, I'll wait till all the bugs are worked out and most importantly when the prices goes down!
